We had already liked the Azura, a design that had been revived last December to celebrate its thirtieth anniversary, but the Neo Tokyo takes our excitement to a new level.
Using a neon-inspired palette to mimic the vitality of Tokyo at night, this shoe practically explodes when placed against the drab urban backdrop of concrete sidewalks and asphalt streets.
The Azura’s construction is typical of a late ‘80s runner: The lightweight, ripstop fabric upper is reinforced using synthetic microsuede overlays and a plastic stabilizer. An aggressively lugged outsole provides all-surface traction while an EVA midsole acts as the shoe’s primary cushioning.
For anyone looking to join the retro-runner movement but wants something slightly less mainstream, the Neo Tokyo Azura is a perfect a fit. Apparently it’s also a shoe for vegans. The Azura is claimed to be made without the use of leathers or animal ingredients.
