Puma continues to grow its impressive basketball collection with the new Clyde Hardwood, a low-cut model that works equally well as a performance shoe – and a sneaker.

The shoe’s knitted forefoot section might be strikingly similar to the Clyde Court, but moving back from the midfoot things get very interesting. Textured leather and suede overlays have been added, no doubt to enhance the lower cut shoe’s stability, and would explain the complimentary-coloured oversized external heel counter.

The Hardwood’s kick-around comfort comes from a ProFoam midsole, which is visible through a translucent surround. The proprietary, lightweight EVA is claimed by Puma to provide rebound energy much like adidas’ well-known Boost material.

Puma points out that the Hardwood was inspired by vintage Clyde models, but to our eyes it’s a thoroughly modern design that nicely compliments the current Clyde collection with its clean, yet bold look, and a profile that is far easier to slip on your foot than a high top.
