Reebok Club C Stomper x Nanamica
Colourway: White/True Grey 1/Collegiate Navy [FU7767]
Is it okay to admit that we’re still in a huff about having missed out on the sensational Reebok Alien Stomper 40th Anniversary OG that was released last May? Mistakes are to be learned from, so there won’t be any hesitation this time when it comes to bagging the Reebok x Nanamica Club C Stomper.
Reebok’s most recent Stomper is a collab, and a far more subtle interpretation of the Alien footwear, but that’s not a bad thing; the design not only still stands out from the crowd, it can also purport to be a cross between a tennis shoe with a ground-breaking science fiction film. In short, it’s a conversation starter.
Nanamica, a Japanese clothing label that probably isn’t a household name for sneaker fans, understandably gave the Stomper a fashion-inspired touch: the shoe’s upper is made of garment leather, a softer, more pliable leather compared to what was used for the OG version.
The main attraction of this Stomper is its semi-slip-on design. Gone are the traditional Club C laces, replaced by the Stomper lacing system that combines an elasticised band with a massive flap, which is secured by a hook and loop closure (Velcro to the Kleenex crowd).
The use of a gum outsole adds class, but more importantly it kicks the vibe back to the ‘70s where it belongs. There’s no question that this well-executed design represents an intriguing balance between a retro and futuristic appearance.
Still not convinced? Each pair comes with a protective shoe bag for storage or travel, and how do you say ‘no’ to that?
