adidas Consortium FYW S-97
Colourway: Core Footwear White/Supplier Colour/Red [G27704]
Breaking from the established collaborative Consortium process, the new adidas Feetyouwear Salvation 97 (FYW S-97) was completely designed in-house and the end result speaks for itself: This superbly executed, multi-layered shoe that incorporates leather overlays over a mesh fabric underlay features details that true sneaker aficionados appreciate.
When first introduced in 1997, the technologically advanced EQT Salvation was the first adidas model to use the FYW technology, which had been developed to improve footbed stability and lessen the risk of ankle roll injuries.
The original model also incorporated the adidas Torsion system, a footbed component that is still in use today and found in adidas’ new top-of-the-line Ultraboost 19. Originally revealed in 1989, this year marks the thirtieth anniversary of the Torsion system and it’s the raison d’être for the FYW S-97, which is one of the revived archive models being used to celebrate this milestone.
We loved the original FYW models, in particular because their designs challenged conservative tastes, and of course no FYW model would be complete without Freddie. Although we would have preferred Freddie’s face to have been more prominently featured in a contrasting colour on the FYW S-97, we none-the-less appreciate it as one of those details adidas strove to replicate from the 1997 EQT Salvation.
